Brother N.C. Buntyn Sr. was well known in the community as a notable sound man, a small business owner, and a local D.J. He owned some of the best sound equipment in town and facilitated affairs for Lane College, Merry High School, and other African-American organizations and auxiliaries in the Jackson area.

In 1970, he donated some of his sound equipment to his beloved church, Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, and began to record church sermons on reel-to-reel tapes.  While working at WJAK radio station, Brother Buntyn broadcasted Macedonia ‘live’ on the air from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. the ministry was a success.

To further spread God’s Word, Brother Buntyn and Reverend Page started the first MMBC’s Sick and Shut-In Ministry. They recruited the young men of the church and trained them to record sermons; these sermons were played  during visits to the sick and to those who were convalescing.

In 1977, the church moved from 217 Lane Avenue to their new home at 106 Glass Street. Brother Buntyn continued his love for the Audio Ministry and was responsible for building the church’s current media booth. Morning church services were now recorded on cassette tapes and Brother Buntyn still worked the controls.

Today, Audio technology has changed and advanced. We now have internet and social media which gives the church of today endless potential to witness and spread God’s Word.

Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church and the Jackson Community are grateful to Brother N.C. Buntyn Sr. He loved all and he labored where needed.  He was our Mentor who trained the young men of MMBC and the young people of the community.  He was our ‘Mr. Fixit’  who tackled everything from plumbing to flowerbeds.

He was always on-call.
